Depression: A Comprehensive View

Depressive disorders are common, costly and may affect the quality of life of an individual. A rise in mental illness in the older adult makes it important for facilities to have a plan executed to deal with this problem and provide person-centered care. Developing policies and procedures to assess all persons for depression will help identify those that need treatment. As a staff member interacting with older adults experiencing depression, it is your responsibility to recognize early signs of depression, report these signs, and support interactions listed on the plan of care.
