This educational activity outlines the caregiver’s role and priorities when caring for individuals with a terminal illness at the end of life. Healthcare workers (HCWs) in the assisted living and home health and hospice settings play a key role in helping individuals, families, and support persons at the EOL. When HCWs feel apprehensive about caring for individuals facing
death care can be compromised. Competence in delivering care is needed to guide all persons throughout the stages of death and through the grief that accompanies the task. Being knowledgeable allows caregivers to provide compassionate, person-centered care during this time.
