Psychotropic Medication Regulations

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has revised its guidance to better regulate psychotropic medications. The purpose is to ensure they are used appropriately with resident-centered care at the forefront. These new regulations emphasize gradual dose reduction (GDR), PRN (as-needed) limitations, informed consent, behavioral interventions, and enhanced pharmacy reviews.
